The James Family Christmas Card - 2014 Edition

Now that everyone has received their cards via mail, I'm finally able to share our family Christmas card with my blog family. I get so excited to share our holiday cards with ya'll each year...call me crazy, but it's almost like I'm sending each of you a card, too. Loads of time, energy, outfit planning, and the amazing photography skills of my dear friend went into this year's Christmas card and I hope you like the finished product as much as we do.
From our family to yours, may you have a wonderful holiday season, filled with all the things you enjoy most...we wish you the merriest Christmas of all and a Happy New Year, too!

And P.S. Isn't my sweet girl adorable?

Gluten Free Christmas Yummies

I'm going to be completely honest and open in this post- so please be kind in your comments.

I hate dread school parties, birthday parties, church activites....

My  baby has Celiac Disease- which in the most simplest terms, means she cannot consume anything with wheat, barley or rye {or anything that could be contaminated with those 3 dirty words- such as being manufactured in a plant that produces gluten products}.

You cannot begin to fathom how many everyday products contain gluten. Forget foods, even some soaps and chap sticks contain gluten. No, I don't by the $3 EOS chap sticks because I want to- they are the only ones that are gluten free.

Each month we spend on average $150 a week to feed our two year old breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks for the 5 day school week.

That's $600 a month. On just her food. That doesn't include what my husband and I eat- because typically, we eat ramen noodles and doritios. Truth.

I've prayed for peace. In those moments when I'm in the grocery store and want to just break down, I remind myself of this: My baby is a normal, healthy, happy girl. I know there are parents out there who wish all they had to do in order for their child to be healthy is buy gluten free foods. I'm thankful we are blessed and can afford to live a gluten free life.

I am blessed, and ironically Celiac reminds me just how much.

But all that aside, we are finally managing to keep our head above water in the gluten free world. We've found foods that sweet pea will actually eat, accumulated gluten free recipes we all can enjoy, and we've mastered the art of knowing where to find gluten free things we need.

We never go out to dinner- and if we do, we have two choices. One of which is Chic-fil-a. Did you know they have their own 'gluten free' menu- you just have to ask for it :)

And then comes what we cannot control. Social events.

When we go to birthday parties, we bring ice cream cups for everyone- since MG cannot eat most of the yummies typically found at parties.

When the church has events, we bring MG her own 'special' foods :)

But school parties are my undoing. I'll admit- I shed many tears on the days before and after MG's Halloween Party at school. So many moms made such cute 'Pinteresty' snacks that the little ones adored, but my sweet girl couldn't indulge.

She's two. She doesn't understand why. One day she will, but right now she feels left out and gets so frustrated and angry. She thinks we are just being mean.

And ya'll, it rips my heart open. Every. Single. Time.

I'm tossing around ideas for her birthday party. The cake topic hurts. If I did manage to find someone who could make a gluten free cake, the cost would be outrageous. For example, one  box of cake mix {which makes about 6-8 cupcakes} is easily $6 and up.

My sweet husband suggested ordering an ice cream cake, so that's the route we will take.

Back to the party thing- when I walked in the school a couple of weeks ago and saw the signs for the Christmas parties, I immediately thought about just keeping her home that day.

But more than not wanting her to feel left out, I do not want Celiac to keep her from enjoying life.

So, I've once again shed tears and tried to decide what to do. Being honest, the gluten free cakes etc are not that good. I mean, Mary Grace doesn't know the difference, but the rest of the world does- including her classmates. I wanted her to be able to contribute cute, festive treats that her classmates would love as well! Thank goodness for Pinterest. Along with bringing what we signed up for {chips, dips, ice cream cups} I found these super cute {and cheap/easy} ideas that my sweet girl will LOVE bringing to school for her friends :)

Marshmallow Snowmen

 Berry Merry Marshmallow Santas

 Snowman Cupcakes {will use Betty Crocker's Gluten Free Devils Food Cake mix for cupcakes}

We have two Christmas parties this coming week. Her ballet class will have their little party on Tuesday evening, and then her class party at Patrician is on Thursday.
Now that I have a plan in place, I'm actually looking forward to them. Which is a big deal. A very big deal.

Thanks for 'listening' as I poured out my frustrations.

Here's to enjoying the season's festivities!

Christmas Crafts For The Littles

I've been on the lookout for cute Christmas crafts to do with my sweet little, and I thought I'd share my top ten faves with my fellow mommies-of-toddlers. Some of these are cute ideas for Christmas ornaments- which I plan to do for the Grands. Some of these are just cute art ideas- because let's face it, what's cuter than a reindeer made by those precious, chubby little hands!

P.S. - I adore #7 and it may be a new tradition we start this year.

Merry Mail

Speaking of Christmas cards.... I'm in search of a super cute {but super easy} DIY Christmas card holder.

Here are some lovelies via Pinterest.

This Merry Mail lovely is available on Etsy- but I think it could be a fun DIY.

 Love the lights :)

One of my favorites! Love the tree and the cute mouse traps :)

While it's not fancy, it's practical and pretty!
Thinking I could do this on our pantry door.

Christmas Card Love

I love opening my mailbox and seeing those colorful envelopes containing precious Christmas cards from family and friends. I am ashamed to say that since being on my own, last year was the first year I did not send out cards. Time just snuck up on me and I didn't get them mailed out in time.

Alas, fear not because this year I am not missing the mailing deadline! I've already ordered our cards and cannot wait to sit by the fire, watch Christmas movies, and address our cards.

It's always so hard to choose a card design because there are only 189,366,896,147 cute designs out there.

While browsing, I stumbled across these lovelies from Minted, Shutterfly, and TinyPrints. I've ordered from all three of these shops before and have always had great results.

As for which design I fell in love with most..... well, you'll just have to wait until they've been mailed before I post on here :)

At This Moment

At this moment, my sweet girl is at school doing fun Thanksgiving art. My husband is at work.

And I'm at home. Alone.

This is such a rarity- it almost feels unnatural to be home alone!

I'm enjoying my day off by sipping hot cocoa, listening to Christmas music, and putting up a few decorations. I cannot wait for my little one to get home and help put ornaments on the tree. Love moments like those with my best girl!

I had planned to decorate Saturday because I NEVER decorate before Thanksgiving. This year, though, I am crossing over to the dark side and decorating before we've eaten turkey.

Happy Monday!

Thanksgivnig Break

Today is the first day of nine glorious days off. I am so excited about spending some much needed time with friends and family.

Today my sweet man and I are off to Starkville to cheer on the Bulldogs. Hail State!

Monday is 'Mommy's Day'. I'm looking forward to some time to myself, a little pampering, and then seeing The Nutcracker Suite ballet that night. A few of the girls from MG's dance studio will be performing in the ballet- exciting!

Wednesday will be spent with my two favorite KK's - aka Chickadee and her sweet baby girl.

Thursday we are hosting Thanksgiving dinner at our home and we are so excited about cooking a yummy, GLUTEN FREE, Thanksgiving dinner!

Friday, of course, will be spent shopping. Nannie J and I are planning to spend Black Friday together hunting for good deals, and enjoying a day out and about together.

Saturday will be filled with hot cocoa and Christmas music as the little one and I deck the halls for the holidays.

Sunday, my teammate Terry and I will be sharing our mission trip stories with our church congregation.

And in between all of this, there will be many moments of snuggling with my best girl, watching princess movies, and relaxing in PJ's by the fire.

Happy Thanksgiving Break, Lovelies!

Fall Family Photos

I needed a good family picture for our Christmas cards so I hit up my sweet friend- and amazing photographer. She snapped a few shots in our neighborhood Sunday after church. It was the perfect Fall afternoon! I have way more than just a great Christmas card photo, I have some fantastic family photos! I cannot wait to get these in and hang them on our walls :)

Be on the look out for one of these in your mailbox this Christmas!

Ten Years

On this night, ten {short} years ago I was immersed into the new life waters of baptism. I had made a decision to follow Christ and my baptism was a public display of my inward decision.

Ten years and every day the journey with Jesus brings so much newness, love, forgiveness, and hope.

Ten years ago I never could have dreamed where Jesus would lead me.

Into the most intimate relationship with the perfect Man who died for me.

Into depths of forgiveness that finally helped heal past hurts.

Even onto foreign soil to tell others of This Man....the Son of God.

In ten years He has never once left my side.

He is the true picture of faithfulness. I pray that as I daily sit at His feet, He will continue to mold and shape me... until all that's left is His image and glory reflected in my life.

I look forward to seeing where He will lead me tomorrow...next month...in ten years...when I'm living my last days.

And if I thought living this life with Him couldn't be any sweeter, I've yet to see Him face to face.

When I reach heaven, His face will be the first I look for. And I, for one, cannot wait to run to Him.

Making A List, Checking It Twice

This weekend I finally started marking things off our Christmas list. I was able to shop for all the sweet little ones in our life. I even managed to get all of Mary Grace's items bought and wrapped. Well, I wrapped what could be wrapped, anyway. The items that need assembling will be tackled later, and we'll just add bows to them- easy!

The only item we did not get this weekend was number 4, the small jumper. We're still debating on whether to get this now or save it for her birthday {when the weather will be warmer and she can enjoy it more}.

Number 12 was an awesome find. Little Miss loves trains- not sure where this has come from, but it's her latest obsession. When I stumbled upon this cute VTech train set, it was a must. I cannot wait to see her open this gift!

The only person left to actually 'shop' for is my sweet husband. The remaining items on my list must be ordered online and shipped to friends/family.

All this shopping and wrapping is putting me in the holiday spirit! I am counting down the days until I can put up decorations and start playing Christmas music!

Newsboys and 24 Hours

The weekend is here and I not-so-secretly kind of want to throw confetti in the air and celebrate that today is Saturday!  Mary Grace is spending the night with her Granny, so we have a full 24 hours all to ourselves.  For those with little ones in tow, you understand full well that 24 hours kid-free is the adult equivalent of Disney World.  Or like winning the lottery.  We're so torn though between wanting to live it up and enjoy the Newsboys concert tonight or hibernate for a solid day.  What to do, what to do?!

In 2.5 years, this will only be our third night without our baby girl. Third. And while I am very much looking forward to an evening full of music and worshiping Jesus with my sweet man, I'm still feeling guilty for leaving my sweet pea!

Unless our old age / parent status hits, we will actually be up past nine o'clock. At a concert no less! Whoop whoop! Maybe we aren't as old as we think... or feel :)

Maybe I'll see you at Praise in the Park tonight! :)
Happy Saturday, Lovelies!

October Love

October is my favorite month. It always has been a special season for me.

My first day of my favorite month started early early early with a nice, strong run! Now its time to get ready and start the day!

Happy October, Lovelies!
