My Favorite Things

It's been a while, my friends, since I've posted a Favorite Things list. So, I thought I'd do a fun little post of my latest happies instead of the usual Friday Five.

One. Brookhills Church App
I love David Platt and the message he brings. His books are amazing {especially Radical} and his study Follow Me is one of my all time favorites. I recently came across the app for his church, The Church at Brookhills. It includes a daily reading assignment, explanation notes for the passages, and they also put up their weekly sermon. It's the next best thing to being able to attend his services.

Two. Land O Lakes Cinnamon Sugar Butter
Heaven in a plastic tub, I tell you. I've eaten this with toast every. single. morning for like two weeks now. So good!

Three. Vacation Bible School
It's that time of year again and VBS is in full swing at our little church. I have had a blast this week with my sweet girls. It's always a good time when the focus is on the gospel!

Four. Gel Nails
I wish I had purchased a kit sooner. I love them- they last for weeks and stay super shiny. I've tried three colors so far- a cool blue, hot pink, and a neutral shimmer pink. While I'm usually not into wild colors, the blue is my new fave :)
Five. Chacos
I have my eye one this little pair for our upcoming mission trip.

Six. Water with lemon, lime, and a little salt
Sounds gross, I know but it's how I love my water! I've been trying to keep a count on my water intake, since I never drink enough fluid.

Seven. McDonalds Has Arrived In Butler
Ya'll, our small town is growing. I never thought I'd see the day when we'd get a McDonalds. And yes, I was one of the nerds who kept track of the opening date and made sure I swung by on the big day :)

Eight. Gain Sunflower and Sunshine
Love this scent! It's a great change from the usual scents I buy.

Nine. Rain Boots
Another last minute item on my mission trip list is a new pair of rain boots. I have this lovely pair picked out and adore the fun pattern and pops of yellow.

Ten. Hello Genius books by Michael Dahl
We discovered this series during the Summer Reading Program at the library. Mary Grace looooves them and I can't wait to add our own copies to our home library. They are perfect for her age- not to simple/babyish and not advanced. The books teach life skills and manners with cute animals as the stars of the stories. I highly recommend them!

My Favorite Things {Christmas Edition}

I've been brainstorming blog ideas and realized that I haven't done a Favorite Things in quite a while. With all the Christmas festivities in full swing, I thought it would be fun to post my favorite Christmas lovelies.

Confession: I may have a slight Polyvore addiction, but it is oh so much fun :)

My Favorite Things {Christmas Edition}

  • {Movies} Nothing says Christmas quite like watching The Grinch, The Griswalds, or Ralphie from A Christmas Story. Now that I have a wee one, they are playing constantly at our home. We've watched the snot out of Rudolph and Frosty!
  • {Books} I love reading the Christmas Story from the book of Luke. It's nice to spend time reflecting on the humble beginnings our awesome God chose to enter this world through. Listen to the Silent Night is on of Mary Grace's favorites right now. She's into animal sounds so she requests it daily. I always read The Handmaid and the Carpenter, which is centered around Mary and Joseph's life together.
  • {Music} Nothing beats the voice of Bing Crosby singing classic Christmas songs. Lately my Pandora station has been set on the classic Christmas music sung by the greats: Louis Armstrong, Nat King Cole, Bing Crosby.... the new stuff just doesn't compare.
  • {Hot Cocoa} I may be overloading my system, but lately I've been drinking at least two cups of this warm deliciousness every day- with marshmallows, of course!
  • {Christmas Crafts} If you visit my mom's home during this season, you'll find a plethora of Christmas crafts made by yours truly {and my little brother} cluttering every inch of her home. That's what makes a house a home during the holidays. Mary Grace and I are spending today and tomorrow doing some fun Christmas crafts- I'm talking painting, glue, construction paper... all the messy fun stuff.
  • {Pajamas} One of our Christmas traditions is to open new jammies on Christmas Eve. This makes those otherwise yucky-early-morning-no-makeup Christmas pictures a little less scary :)
  • {Yummy Treats} One word. Divinity.
  • {Christmas Dinners} Bob's family has a tradition of eating a fabulous Christmas Eve dinner. We go every year and it's one of my favorite things to do. I love having family together, seeing Mary Grace play with her cousins, and listening to the excitement as the wee ones talk about Santa coming.
  • {Christmas Decor} I turn on all of our indoor lights as soon as my feet hit the floor in the morning and often times they stay on all. day. long. My favorite time of day lately is those precious few hours after Mary Grace has gone to bed, when my husband and I sit and read/watch TV with the Christmas lights shining. So peaceful!
  • {Christmas Cards} I love opening our mailbox and seeing those colorful Christmas happies. I especially love the ones with family photos so I can see how the little ones have grown over the year! And yes, I keep them all. To me, that's part of the fun of decorating- pulling out Christmas cards from previous years and reminiscing.
Christmas is less than one week away!

My Favorite Things

It has been a while since I've posted one of these. Here's a rundown of my favorites lately.

1. Sunshine
We are loving these warm, sunshiny days! I've made the resolution to spend as much time outdoors as possible- before we know it it will be scorching hot
.

2. The Noticer
Nanny J recommended this and slipped a copy in MG's diaper bag for me to read. My mother-in-law saw it on my counter and raved about how good it is. I haven't finished it yet, but so far it is amazing. I love how it is set in Orange Beach!

3. Sparkling ICE Water
Oh my goodness- I love this product. These waters are seriously amazing! All natural, zero calories, sugars, carbs, and sodium! Tons of vitamins too! Pink Grapefruit is my favorite. Lemon Lime tastes like a Diet Mountain Dew and the Mango Orange tastes like an Orange Sunkist- but without the regrets!

4. The Bible
If you haven't tuned in, you should. New episodes come on every Sunday night on the History channel. It's a wonderful cinematic portrayal of Biblical events.

Pretty sight on an afternoon walk in the neighborhood

5. Bradford Pears
I'm always happy when those gorgeous white blossoms make their debut.

6. Easter Candy
My faves are Mini Robin Eggs and those Marshmallow Eggs. I can never turn them down.

7. Crawfish
Yummo!

8.  Skin Milk
Pretty sure I've mentioned this product before, but it's worth repeating. I've haven't been able to find this in stores as of late, so I've resorted to ordering it online. It's worth it's weight in gold! Lightweight, non-greasy, but an amazing moisturizer = perfect warm weather lotion.

9. Mary Grace's Easter Dress
I may be a bit obsessed with Janie and Jack as of late. Adorable!

10.  Longer Days
While I dislike how it's dark when I wake up, I so enjoy having more sunshine in the evenings. It gives us time as a family to do more of the things we enjoy.

Happy Saturday!

My Favorite Things: The Sniffles Edition

Poor Mary Grace has her very first cold. She has a stuffy nose and slight cough. Nothing a little saline mist and the oh-so fun bulb syringe can't fix.

Breaks my heart!

We went in for her four month check up- she weighed 12.12 lbs and was 23.75 inches long. She's right in the 30th percentile range for weight, length, and head circumference. Looks like she will be a petite little thing!

Anywho, I thought I'd post a favorite things list to outline our must-haves while Miss Marry Grace is under the weather. Here are my six must have necessity items for times when our wee-one is sick.

Temporal Thermometer
When my darling is feeling under the weather, the last thing I could do to her is insert a thermometer...well, you know where. With the temporal thermometer, I just swipe it across her forehead and over her temple. No unpleasantness necessary. Plus, I can check her temp during the night without ever waking my sleeping beauty. They are a bit pricey, ranging from $50-$70 depending, but well worth the investment. My friend, Chickadee {who is also a nurse} recommended it while helping me register for baby items. I'm so glad she did!

Little Noses Saline Nasal Spray
Helps unclog things so my sweet can breathe easier. Pair this with a nasal aspirator to really help clear that stuffy nose. Not to be confused with the decongesting drops.

Infant Tylenol
A must with any sick baby to help tame fevers.

Vick's Starry Night Cool Mist Humidifier
I love that we can insert the Vick's vapor pads. The aroma helps open up airways and makes breathing a bit easier. Plus, the nightlight is a bonus!

sick-baby-must-haves
Bulb Syringe
Yes, the beloved nose sucker {or snot sucker as we affectionately call it}. We kept the one given to us at the hospital- and thank heavens we did! The hospital type is the best in my opinion. We have four other brands and they are all junk. We considered purchasing one of the battery powered aspirators, but have heard more bad reviews than good from fellow Mommies.

Little Colds Chest Rub
I despise the smell, but if it works, it works! This really seemed to help Mary Grace breathe easier.

There you have it! Our must-haves when our little peanut is battling the sniffles.

What are your go-to items to help get your little one on the up-and-up?

My Favorite Things: Baby Edition

This post is pretty lengthy and is catered more to New or Expecting Mommies.
Consider yourself warned :)

It's been ages since I posted a favorite things list and I thought it would be fun to post a baby edition. Here are all of our favorite baby items at the moment. As a new Mommy, I highly recommend all of these products- some of them are survival items, while others just make life with a sweet little bundle a little easier sweeter! I also included a few items we thought we would love, but ended up not working for us.

Sleep Sheep: We do not leave home without this little guy. He is our lifesaver!

Little Tummies Gas Drops: You will never catch us without these one hand. Our sweet bundle is a gassy little thing! They are especially handy now that MG is on a Similac rather than Nutramigen.

Multi-Use Disposable Pads: We put these down in MG's bassinet, crib, and on her changing table. If she spits up or makes a mess, just toss it and place a clean one down. We can never have enough of these. {Much easier than changing sheets all the time}

Summer Infant Day/Night Video Monitor: This has really come in handy for this new Mommy now that we are placing MG in her big girl crib for daytime naps. It makes me nervous having her in another room alone, so this really helps ease my fears.

Medela Pump In Style  On-The Go Advanced Breast Pump: Medela is the best. Period. If you plan to breast feed, this is worth the investment.

Baby Trend Expedition Jogging Stroller: I wanted a jogger, so after much research I settled on this one. It is perfect for what we need {the roads around the lake are not known for their smoothness} and you cannot beat the price {compared to a BOB}. It's so easy to steer which makes it perfect for everyday use, too.

Gowns: I thought I would like these, but when MG was tiny they just didn't work out for us. However, we started using them again a few weeks ago and they make life so much easier {especially in the diaper changing department}. Now that MG is a bit bigger, these are my go-to outfits for lounging around the house.

Boppy Pillow: This was really helpful when I was breastfeeding, but it's just as handy now that MG is getting older. We use it to prop her up during playtime and it still comes in handing during feedings since she's getting oh-so heavy!

Aden + Anais Blankets: Best baby blanket, hands down. We have dozens upon dozens of baby blankets- every size, shape, color, texture.... you get the picture. Well, they are all nicely laundered and tucked away somewhere because the only blankets we use are Aden + Anais. These are the best baby blankets- the perfect combination of lightweight, soft material, yet they can be folded for times when a heavier blanket is needed.

Cloth Diapers: When it comes to serious spit-up, you can toss all the fancy schmancy {yes, I said schmancy} burp cloths because plain jane cloth diapers are hands down the best. MG has dozens of cute, monogrammed burp cloths and what do we use day in and day out- cloth diapers. You thought for a minute I was going to say I use those instead of Huggies, didn't you!  ;)

Cradle Swing: MG loves, loves, loves her swing. It's out lifeline when things start to get hairy.

Aveeno Baby Care Products: We started out using the traditional Johnson & Johnson baby products, but ended up switching to the Aveeno brand. Not only do I love their scents better {their nigh time bath wash smells soooo good} but they keep MG cuddly and baby soft without irritating her sensitive skin.

And now for the items we dislike.

Safety 1st Turtle Complete Bath Center: If I had it to do over again, I would choose a tub without mesh. Our tub has a turtle cushion that is removable. However, there is a mesh fabric that is necessary for the baby to lean back on while bathing. I have to wrangle it off the wire frame and wash it at least twice a week because it gets slimy and mildewy. Yucko! I'm considering tossing it and purchasing one like this:

Tommee Tippee Closer To Nature Bottles: These sound great, in theory, and were the bottles I had registered for. When I first switched MG from breast to bottle, these were the only ones she could latch onto. The gas issue quickly arose and we realized the bottles were making it worse. They did a horrible job at diffusing air bubbles. We scrapped them after only one week of use and now we have a cabinet full of bottles we cannot use. We went to the Playtext Nursers, which work great except that you cannot buy the liners in our small town. It became frustrating having to drive 45 minutes just to buy refills. We ended up giving our set of Nursers to Nanny J for times when MG is at her home. We finally ended up using the Dr. Brown bottles {which I hate despise}. But hey, if they work for Little Miss, then they are worth the headache brought on by the tedious task of cleaning them.

There you have it. The best and worst baby products {in my opinion, of course}. I'm gearing up for another jam-packed weekend. Today we are off for a special retirement celebration and tomorrow is Chickadee's bachelorette party.

See you Monday!

Friday's Favorites: Summertime Edition

1. Flip Flops
While technically I wear these from early Spring to late Autumn, they're still a Summer favorite.
2. Summer Dresses
I mostly wear comfy, cool dresses in the Summer. Old Navy usually has really cute dresses, which is where I found these. Too bad for me, I have to travel to get to an Old Navy store.

3. Watermelons
Yummo! I live off of watermelon and tomato sandwiches during the Summer.

4. The Beach
It's just not Summer until I've been to the beach.

5. Seafood
Speaking of the beach, I cannot go without indulging in seafood. I love it all except for oysters.

6. Lemonade
While I'd love to say that our lemonade is homemade, it's not. We are country time fans. Their pink lemonade is my favorite!
7. Dove Energy Glow
I think this has made the top 10 before, but you can't talk about the beach and summer dresses without addressing the tanning situation. While I usually get a little color from just being outdoors, I'm not a sun goddess. This pale girl needs a little help!
8. Fourth of July
This would be one of my top 3 favorite holidays. I love the cookouts, family time, watermelon, and, of course, the fireworks.

9. Being Outdoors
We spend a lot of time on our porch just sitting. Since this is the South, it's nearly impossible to get out and about before 5 p.m.

Speaking of outdoors, these two showed up on the lake about 2 weeks ago. While we've always had ducks or geese show up from time to time, these are the only ones that have stayed. They've been hanging out right in our back yard! I hope they decide to make this their home.

10. Our Anniversary
We have about a month until, and we've been trying to plan something fun. We usually travel to the beach for this occasion.

While this favorite does not have anything to do with summertime, I thought share it. I added one of those traffic feeds to my blog to see where people are visiting from. If you scroll down it's on the bottom left hand sidebar, you can also click it at the bottom of the box where it says "Real Time View" to all previous visitors.  It's been really neat to see all the different places: Bangladesh, Utah, South Carolina, Tennessee, several from Butler and the surrounding area... pretty neat! I encourage you to share your thoughts by leaving comments- I'd love to hear from you!

As always, Happy Friday!

Friday's Favorites

1.  Good Health
We are praising God for my husband's good health! We had a scare a few weeks ago, but we are so thankful everything came back okay.

2.   VBS
I taught the 5th-7th grade class and really enjoyed working with the older kids. It was quite a change from what I'm used to. I had prayed specifically for one student in particular. My prayers were answered when she gave her life to Jesus Wednesday night. I'm so excited to see her baptism tonight, along with all of the kids who accepted Christ.

3.  Wax Warmer
My friend T had one in her home and it made her whole house smell so good. Last night while she and I were out I picked up one from Wal-Mart. My favorite scent is the Pomegranate and Passion Fruit.

4.  Allen's Battered Whole Green Beans
Ya'll, these things are sooooo yummy! I fry them and oh my goodness, I could eat the whole batch right by myself.

5.  Boundary
While I love my sweet Louie man, I don't love what he does to our patio furniture. He has one chair in particular that he sleeps on, but lately he's been getting on all the chairs. My mother-in-law mentioned this spray that she uses for her dog. It keeps your pets away from areas you don't want them. Since it has a bit of a stinky smell, I just sprayed it on the wicker and not the cushions. So far, so good!

6.  Fresh Vegetables from my Dad's garden

7.  Frozen Caramel Coconut Pie
My grandmother made one and I had to get the recipe. My husband LOVES this pie. I've had several people request the recipe, so I'll post it later.

8.  Summer Afternoon Thunderstorms

9.  Pivot Mirrors
I want to change out our current mirrors in our master bath to these which would make number #154 on my house to-do list.

 10. Biolage Hydrating Conditioning Balm
I was surprised to find that Wal-Mart now carries this line. Before, I could only get it at the salon. While I've tried to cut back on my pricey salon products, I couldn't resist this. It's actually quite a bit of conditioner- my tub has lasted over a month and still has some in it.

Happy Friday!
